As an employer you will be committed to developing your greatest asset – your workforce. Developing their talents will help to secure the future skill needs of your business.

The efficient running of your business can depend heavily on having well trained, reliable and motivated staff, but their day-to-day technical skills, must now also be enhanced by financial and managerial or supervisory skills.

A Marine Apprenticeship will help build the right skills, as Apprenticeships have been designed by employers to meet the needs of the industry, and have been developed to help create the managers of the future.

What does an Apprenticeship include?

A Marine Apprenticeship includes:

  • A Marine Industry NVQ at Level 2
  • Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology at Level 1
  • Key Skills in Working with Others and Improving own Learning at Level 2
  • A City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Boat Production, Maintenance and Support

Technical Certificates focus on the knowledge and understanding that underpins the NVQ, and are provided through a programme of off-the-job training. Apprentices will also learn about Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR).

An Advanced Apprenticeship includes:

  • A Marine Industry NVQ at Level 3
  • All five Key Skills at Level 2
  • A City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Boat Production, Maintenance and Support
  • A City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Boat Production, Maintenance and Support

You have a key role in developing your Apprentice’s learning plan. We work with you to ensure that the Apprenticeship meets the needs of your business. The exact mix of NVQ units will depend upon the marine sector in which your Apprentice works.

Mandatory units of the NVQ could include

  • Working safely in a marine environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Working with other people on engineering activities
  • Install engineering products/assets
  • Conduct specified testing of engineering products/assets
  • Reinstate the work area after engineering activities

In addition you will select from a wide range of optional units in order to tailor the Apprenticeship to the requirements of your company.
